Gameplay mechanics in GYLT encompass a variety of elements, including stealth, puzzles, and combat. The game’s approach to addressing the issue of bullying adds depth to the storyline, allowing players to empathize with the struggles faced by its young protagonist. GYLT’s narrative also explores the complex dynamics between Sally and Emily, offering emotionally-laden and very personal moments within its haunting setting. Along the way, players encounter a dark and eerie world, where their fears and worst memories come to life. Sally’s quest to find her missing cousin, Emily, serves as the driving force behind the narrative. As in Deadlight, the game features a suspenseful atmosphere, drawing inspiration from renowned horror titles such as Alan Wake. The story premise of GYLT captivates players from the start, as Sally embarks on a journey through a twisted version of her hometown. With a surreal and eerie atmosphere, GYLT paints a fantasy world but doesn’t shy away from addressing real-world issues like bullying in its narrative either. Set in the fictional old mining town of Bethelwood, the game plunges players into the haunting tale of Sally, a young girl on a quest to find her missing cousin, Emily. GYLT is a narrative adventure game that blends suspense, puzzles, stealth, and action. As Tequila Works was previously responsible for the underappreciated gem that is Deadlight, we couldn’t wait to try it out. GYLT, developed by Tequila Works in collaboration with Parallel Circles, started life as a Stadia exclusive, but has now come to other platforms as well, giving us the chance to review it on a PlayStation 5. Much ado about very little, it might be said. Explanations, however implausible, are somehow reassuring." Underground control suggests order and order suggests reason. is that they need causality in much the same way they need a God. Her clear and clear-headed summation comes near the end of the book: "Perhaps one of the reasons people are so fascinated with conspiracy theories. may simply serve as skullduggery to mask the society's biggest mystery, or lack thereof." "Skull and Bones is," she writes, "at its core, equivalent of the Wizard of Oz, the puny but cunning man hidden behind a curtain of mystique, projecting images that inspire awe and terror in order to expand himself into something great and terrible. She believes that the majority of the rumors and conspiracy theories have been planted by Bonesmen themselves, to raise them in the sight of others, or in playfulness. She finds them less sinister and vulgar than some other reports have - many of which would better please my conspiracy-culture friends. Robbins describes in intricate detail the "tapping" - selection and invitation - and then the initiation ceremonies. But cumulatively, the details provide some keen insights into the culture, breeding and background of the Skull and Bones elite. There is probably more detail in this book about Yale's origins and quasi-official institutional development than anyone but a participant is likely to want to know. Women were first allowed in in 1991.īones has gone through shifts of emphasis from literary talent to general scholarship to athletic prowess to primary attention on social and prep-school origins. Many others took Greek letters as their names. Literary societies arose from the 1780s onward, with the beginning of Phi Beta Kappa as a secret society. Robbins presents a delightful history of undergraduate pranksterism at Yale - ritualized, often pompous, almost always absurd - gatherings, events, elections of such offices as "College Bully" and "The Wooden Spoon Man." "The Burial of Euclid" ended the geometry semester. Its early history was dominated by severe Congregationalist orthodoxy, which slowly eroded into a sort of caste system. The core of the book begins by tracing the origins of Yale itself, an upstart competitor of Harvard, begun as the Collegiate School of Connecticut in 1701. But all were men of convincing credentials. Bush made significant appointments of fellow Bonesmen. Presidents to three (William Howard Taft - 1878 - was the other), there is new fuel for the fire of paranoia about the group. Now with two Bushes, father and son, raising the number of Bonesmen U.S. After graduation, the members, who are known as "knights" while at Yale, become "patriarchs," but have no formal duties. House servants prepare meals, but no other outsiders are allowed in the building. No alcohol is drunk within the building, except on extremely rare occasions, Robbins reports, when there has been celebratory drinking of wine. What is Skull and Bones, indisputably? A self-perpetuating group of 15 members of each senior class in Yale, who for that final undergraduate year meet twice a week, in intense secrecy, in an almost windowless, Gothic, tomb-like edifice. Her conclusions, built on what appears to be very sound, probing reporting, find Yale's most prominent secret society, finally, to be more ridiculous than threatening, more pathetic than powerful. She presents those conspiratorial charges - and more - as an examination of the legend. Robbins does not mean them to be taken as true. Those three sentences come from a new book, Secrets of the Tomb: Skull and Bones, the Ivy League, and the Hidden Paths of Power, by Alexandra Robbins (Little, Brown, 240 pages, $25.95). Like Mk2, Maschine Mk3 is USB bus-powered - an impressive achievement, given that it not only incorporates two full-colour screens but also an audio interface (see Wired for sound). This gives the whole unit a much classier appearance, making the buttons on all other Maschines look comparatively chunky and toy-like. The LED backlit buttons have been overhauled: all but the Group and top-row function buttons are now solid black with cutout lettering allowing the light through. It’s 0.25" longer than Mk2, an inch shallower at its deepest, and weighs 0.4kg more. We never had any issue with Mk2’s build quality, but Mk3 takes the device’s physicality to new heights, its all-metal construction, sturdy knobs and firm, clicky buttons putting it right up there with Ableton’s Push 2 - the current controller construction benchmark. It just depends on your workflow I guess.Maschine Mk2 made minimal changes to the layout and construction of Mk1, but Maschine Mk3 is a total redesign. This isn't much of a problem if you work with a lot of samples and grooves, but for me that means I'm creating and editing stuff in Maschine then dragging it over into Cubase as audio clips. And, apparently Maschine software is not multi-threaded, because it's a bad CPU hog (as is a lot of the Native Instruments stuff). I need to be able to open and do lots of work with the editors for each non-Native Instruments plug-in. I'm very keyboard/synth/PC composition process-centric in my workflow, so Maschine needs to be out of my way (it sits to my right, on a drum stand, where I can reach it easily when doing one of the three activities above, but then I want it out of my way. But to me, it is a drum machine, sampler, and "backbone groove" sequencer - sort of a replacement for the old Akai units (but of course it does more). Really happy with this thing & at half the price it was a steal.Īll very useful if you want to use it as your centerpiece DAW, for which it is quite capable of being. I honestly dont think I'll be using Live much anymore as I'm really enjoying the total hands on factor this Maschine gives you. The tight integration with Komplete is even better now also. The jog wheel is an excelent addition as is the volume knob which can be used to control just about any level. I also love the touch sensitive knobs which also give you a lot of feedback on different parameters. This thing is in a totally different class to the Mk1, the screens are amazing & give you a lot more visual feedback than the old ones. Well I've only had it for a couple of weeks but I think it's a bit of a game changer for me. This Maschine is in mint condition and will make a fun and productive addition to any musician's arsenal! I'm also throwing in a home made stand that elevates the back making it easier to work on & there is an e-voucher for $25 to spend in the NI store with the software. New Maschine 2.0 DVD with unused license code (free upgrade to 2.2)Įverything that you need to enter into the world of Maschine & trust me you will not be disappointed.New Komplete elements DVD with unused license code.Native Instruments Maschine Mk1 unit (fully functional and bus powered). The included sound banks come with full version's of NI's amazing Massive synth and the cool Reactor Prism synth. This Maschine will take full advantage of this awesome software. A sonic palette as vast as your imagination. 8627 samples, 445 full drum kits, 388 multi-sampled instruments, 403 sliced loops, 1200 patterns, and 38 projects, plus five outstanding drum synths. The included MASCHINE sound bank software comes loaded with an 8 GB sound library, created by renowned sound designers and artists. It also comes with a decksaver cover to keep any dust out & looks cool. The unit is in mint condition & has never been gigged. This software gives the Maschine the exact same functionality of the latest Maschine MK 2. This software is un-registered & comes with the serials so you dont have to go through the hassle of switching over the license. I have purchased a new Maschine Studio and had already upgraded my software to Maschine 2.0-2.2 & already have the Komplete package so I didn't need to use the software included with the Studio, so I'm including the newer 2.0-2.2 software and the Komplete selection which came with it. This is an auction for a very gently used Native Instruments Maschine Mk1. So when NI dropped the price of the Maschine studio this month I had to snag one so my MK1 unit is now up for sale on ebay right now if anyone is interested. Thread the string through the holes, then fill the bottle with a bird food and replace the bottle cap. This prevents a build-up of rotting food and bacteria that could harm the birds using your feeder. This type of feeder won't last forever, however, and should be replaced every so often. These need to be wider than the bottle by around 10 centimetres, so there is enough space for birds to perch on each side.Īs with any bird feeder, plastic bottle feeders can be cleaned with boiling water. You will need two sticks to use as perches. Feathers can also get caught on jagged edges, so try to make the holes in the bottle as smooth as possible. Sharp plastic can cause cuts, both for you and the birds you'll be feeding. Take care when cutting into plastic bottles. The homemade feeder shown in the video above is a quick, cheap seed feeder which can attract a wide range of common garden bird species.Īlternatively, find out how to make fat balls to give birds the extra energy they need to survive winter. How to make a plastic bottle bird feederĭifferent types of feed and feeder will attract different species. Insert a straw or stick at the top to create a hole for hanging, once gelatin is set, remove straw and cookie cutter and attach your string. Not only do bird feeders bring more local birds into your garden so you can see them up-close, they provide an invaluable food source, particularly during times of year when resources might be scarce.īird species present in UK gardens change throughout the year, but there will always be some birds around looking for a tasty snack. You can use a cookie cutter to create unique shapes by pouring your seeds into individual cookie cutters onto on a piece of aluminum foil. Since it left an open hole, you won’t need to add the string until after your bird feeders are formed. I happened to have a donut pan on hand and used it for our bird feeders, I love how they resemble a little welcoming wreath hanging in the tree. Press mixture into your container firmly, covering at least 3″ of string to make a secure holder. If you use a shape like that, place a 10” length of string or twine in the center of your mold, cup, tin, or pan, leaving a long enough end to tie off to a branch. If nothing else, you can use those small paper disposable cups. You can use any type of container for making your hanging bird feeder. Pour heated water into cold water, and stir until gelatin is completely dissolved. Heat 1 ½ cups of water in a pan, just below a boil. Sprinkle gelatin over ½ cup of cold water, let sit for 5 minutes. They can be made in a wide variety of containers and shapes, they would make a lovely gift for Grandma or a neighbors yard as well. I love that it gave them an opportunity to think outside of themselves. The little ones loved making these sweet decorative snack for the birds visiting our yard. You can do this project pretty inexpensively and it creates a lovely decoration for your yard (at least until the birds devour it). Here is a fun Homemade Bird Feeder project that has a twofold bonus – it is a fun, simple activity to do with the kids and a nice way to treat your backyard feathered friends. "But we tested it many times and we tuned it many times, and we found we could create it. What kind of Rez can we make? That is the inspiration." Making it work as a musical experience wasn't easy, he explains, because a linear musical score naturally transposes onto a lane shooter, but doesn't jive so well with player freedom. "I thought X should be a new experience that is more rich and emotional and fun to play, with free movement in the world. Not that he isn't making creative steps forward with Area X. Then the next level and next evolution would be creative," he says. That would be enough? "That's enough resolution. Maybe in 10 years, 8K in each eye! If we had that kind of technology, using MR so it's like this." He gestures to the clear glass water bottle on the table and trails off. So over 8K we can't see the detail any more. I heard 8K is, how can I say, the singularity point for the human eye. Finally we got 4K, VR and 3D audio, so this is a big, big motivation to remasterīut Mizuguchi still isn't satisfied. That is the power to move you emotionally and physically. "My game, Rez, needs all the time the highest res, highest tech. "I get inspiration from technology innovation all the time," he says. Tall, dressed in sleek black leisurewear and speaking a slow, dreamy English, he radiated calm and seemed like a man who would quite happily remake Rez on new technology platforms for the rest of time this game, it seems, is his life's work. I met Mizuguchi in London a couple of weeks ago to talk about Rez's PC port and his fascination with advances in game technology. One assumes that it's a blueprint for Rez 2 now that Mizuguchi's Enhance games owns the rights to the series (Rez Infinite on PC is a wholly indie release), that's something we might well see. While it's clearly designed with VR in mind, it works great on a monitor, drawing you in, saucer-eyed, across your desk. It's gently free-roaming, rather than on rails, but this doesn't break the formula. Mouse control is a wonderfully natural and fluid way to play it.Īrea X, meanwhile, is no mere bonus stage but a dazzling reinvention of the Rez aesthetic, swapping vectors for particles, wireframe futurism for a dizzying, glittering firework spectacular. I've been playing the PC version on a boring old monitor, and I'm struck by how gorgeous and thrilling the classic game is, 16 years later the only appropriate response to Area 5's thumping history of life, the universe and everything is, still, awe. Reviewing Rez Infinite on PS4 last year, Martin declared it VR's killer app - and if you've tried Area X on a headset, you would be hard pressed to disagree. You can play Rez Infinite on PC using a controller or mouse and keyboard and, in VR, with headset head tracking, Oculus' Touch controllers or the Vive wands.
